Some of our Amazing Volunteers!

Interested in volunteering for our home delivered meals program?

We are always looking for dependable volunteers with transportation to deliver the home delivered meals to homebound seniors in our area. We currently have 6 routes that run every Monday, starting at 10 am, delivering a week's worth of frozen meals to the consumers. The average time it takes to complete a route is 1.5 - 2 hours. Those who receive meals are deemed eligible by the York County Area Agency on Aging.

Delivering the meals is only one part of the experience. This service is not only with the intention to make sure our aging community members receive nutritious meals, but also serves as a welfare-check to make sure they are OK. The consumers who receive the meals and their family members are extremely grateful for this service which allows them to continue to live independent lives.

If you're interested in applying to become a home delivered meals volunteer, please take a look at the packet below and fill out the application. If you don't have access to a printer you can pick up an application in our main office during normal business hours (Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 2:30 pm). By giving only 1.5 - 2 hours of your day, you can make a difference in the lives of many!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I use my own vehicle?

Yes, you will be driving your own vehicle when you deliver meals. Since we're a nonprofit, we are not able to reimburse for gas mileage, but we do try to help by awarding $20 Rutter's gift cards to 2 of our volunteers each month. We feel this is one way that we can try to help out with the cost of gas.

The Rutter's gift card winners are randomly chosen using a computer software each month. The volunteers who delivered meals in that given month are entered into the contest as many times as they volunteered that month.

Can children volunteer?

Children are more than welcome to volunteer, but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. A parent/guardian will be responsible for transportation to the homes of the consumers, and the safety of the child(ren) while delivering meals to the consumers.

How often do I have to volunteer?

Currently we have volunteers who volunteer 1-3 times per month, and we also have volunteers who serve as backups for when we have a volunteer that needs to cancel at the last minute.

Our greatest need currently is for backup volunteers who are willing/able to step in when we have another volunteer who is unable to make it in. Currently we are only making deliveries on Mondays with the intention of making the least amount of contact with the vulnerable population during the pandemic.

Typically we deliver Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We are uncertain when we will be moving back to 3 times per week deliveries.

What precautions are you taking during Covid?

We have limited exposure to Mondays only instead of 3 days per week. Our volunteers are wearing masks to deliver the meals and they are calling ahead to speak with the consumers before they arrive at the homes. Our volunteers are dropping the meals on the porches for the consumers instead of entering any homes to limit contact/exposure whenever possible.
