Frequently Asked Questions
What primary services do you offer?
Here at Windy Hill we focus on 5 core areas:
~Nutrition - We offer nutritious meals to our members Mondays - Wednesdays drive-thru style from 11 am - noon. On Wednesdays frozen meals are given to our members to use on Thursday and Friday.
We also distribute home delivered meals to homebound seniors through the direction of the York County Area Agency on Aging. Meals for the week are delivered by volunteers to the homes of roughly 80 homebound community members within the Spring Grove/Hanover areas every Monday.
~Health & Fitness - We offer a variety of fitness programs for our members free of charge or of low cost. Check out our Health & Fitness tab for more information on the programs.
~Socialization - Windy Hill members have the ability to socialize and make new friends. Typically we offer a coffee bar in our Cafe where members can converse with each other. Right now we are offering some virtual socialization through Fireside Chats on Mondays at 10 am.
~Lifelong Learning - Our members are encouraged to continue to learn and grow regardless of your age. Currently we are offering Tech Time sessions to learn more about technology, craft sessions to learn new crafts, guest speakers to learn about new ideas/topics, and a non denominational bible study group.
~Intergenerational Programs - Our members are encouraged to participate in activities with community members of all ages to help reduce the stigma of aging, as well as, negative attitudes and stereotypes that come along with aging. Each of us has so much to offer each other through life experiences and wisdom gained.
Are you an adult daycare center?
No, we are a senior center and serve as a drop-in activity center for older adults who are still active and living independent lives. In fact we have additional requirements that need to be met in order for a member to remain active at our Center.
Members must be:
~able and willing to maintain an acceptable level of body hygiene and eating habits
~continent of bowel and urine
~ambulatory or are able to evacuate a building without personal assistance using either a wheelchair or appliances
~oriented to reality
~in sufficient control of behavior to avoid disruption of activities of others.
How much does it cost to be a member?
Membership is free! Many of our services are donation-based. Silver Sneakers card holders are able to attend fitness classes for free. Those who do not have Silver Sneakers are asked to pay a small fee for attending a fitness class taught by a licensed instructor.
How many members do you have?
Currently we have over 300 active members. We serve drive-thru meals to an average of 100 members Mondays through Wednesdays. The remainder of the active members take advantage of our online fitness classes, educational programs, or volunteer for us.
Do you have any volunteer opportunities?
We do offer volunteer opportunities for bingo callers, kitchen help, food service, Meals on Wheels delivery, and occasional other duties around the center. Contact Jenna Lawrence to learn more about volunteer opportunities.
